Racing Louisville FC midfielder Jaelin Howell has replaced injured San Diego Wave midfielder Taylor Kornieck on the 24-player roster for the U.S. Women’s National Team’s upcoming friendlies, U.S. Soccer announced Saturday.
Howell’s call-up represents a bit of club history with this being the first time three Racing Louisville players have been involved in the same USWNT camp. She joins defender Emily Fox and midfielder Savannah DeMelo.
The USA will face England on Friday, Oct. 7, at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London (3 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. local on FOX) followed by a match against Spain on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at El Sadar Stadium in Pamplona (2:30 p.m. ET / 8:30 p.m. local on ESPN2).
Howell, 22, numbers five caps and one goal for the USWNT. She participated in June’s camp ahead of the 2022 Concacaf W Championship, and her most-recent cap came April 9 in Columbus, Ohio, against Uzbekistan in a match in which Howell came on at halftime and scored her first international goal at the senior level.
Howell played for the USA in the 2018 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup and the 2016 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup. She was the second overall pick in the 2022 NWSL Draft out of Florida State and is a two-time winner of the MAC Hermann Trophy as college soccer’s top player.
Howell enters Saturday’s Racing’s 2022 finale — set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff against the KC Current at Lynn Family Stadium — having started all 21 prior regular season games. She has logged 1,812 minutes at defensive midfield while registering two assists.
