Racing Louisville FC’s USL W League team was eliminated from playoff contention on Thursday with a 4-2 loss to Kings Hammer FC at Bishop Brossart High School outside of Cincinnati.
Kings Hammer got its first goal in the 39th minute when Summer Denigan finished a loose ball in the box.
Penn State’s Ally Schlegel leveled things for Racing when she headed in a cross from Ashley Cathro of the University of Illinois. The stalemate only lasted a few minutes, until Denigan scored her second and created an own goal in quick succession.
Schlegel pulled one back when she converted from the penalty spot, but Denigan scored her third of the night and Kings Hammer’s fourth to secure the victory.
With this result, Racing — whose team is composed of college and youth academy standouts — won’t qualify for the pre-professional league’s postseason as the Great Lakes Division winner or in the lone wildcard spot.
Louisville will wrap up its first USL W League season on Saturday, July 9, when the team travels to Michigan to face Flint City AFC at 2 p.m. ET.
