Impact substitutes led Racing Louisville FC’s USL W League side back from an early deficit Sunday for a 3-2 victory over Midwest United FC in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Four minutes after coming on, Clara Robbins fired a grounded shot from distance to convert in the 37th minute on the assist from Ashley Cathro. Later, Ally Schlegel — a halftime sub — leveled the score in the 54th minute.
Racing had work to do after a pair of early goals from Midwest United’s Stephanie Curry, both assisted by Jennifer Blitchok. In the ninth minute, the hosts forced a turnover in Louisville’s half leading to one goal, and a pass slipped past a high defensive line led to the other in the 21st.
Midwest United gave one back late on an 86th-minute own goal that turned out to be the game-winner.
The victory stretched Racing’s unbeaten streak to five games, improving the club to 5-1-2 overall in the pre-professional league’s inaugural season. Racing as a result sits atop the W League’s Great Lakes Division, four points clear of second-place Indy Eleven.
After 12 regular season games, the top club from each of the W League’s eight divisions will advance to the playoffs in mid-July.
