Thanks to a brace from Ashley Cathro, Racing’s W League team defeated Kalamazoo FC, 3-0, on Sunday at Lynn Family Sports Vision & Training Center.
Racing’s W League squad — a pre-professional group composed of college and youth academy standouts — improved to 4-1-1 for the season, with 13 points, claiming the top spot of the Great Lakes Division.
Cathro, a University of Illinois defender, scored her first goal in the 10th minute when she finished a cross from Racing Academy product Ella Sanchez. Fifteen minutes later, Cathro netted her second off a low-driven shot from the top of the box.
Late in the match, Itala Gemelli scored Racing’s third with a long-range strike.
Kalamazoo struggled getting forward. Racing midfielder Clara Robbins, who plays college ball at Florida State, snuffed out Kalamazoo’s best chance of the evening with a last-ditch challenge.
Up next, Racing’s W League team will travel to Michigan to face off against AFC Ann Arbor at Saline High School on Friday, June 10, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
