Kentucky and mint: a partnership that goes back generations.
At a kit reveal party Thursday — coincidentally, just more than a week away from the 148th Kentucky Derby — Racing Louisville FC unveiled the newest way to honor that long-lasting relationship, introducing the club’s Mint Kit that will be worn for most away matches over the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
While Racing won’t don the new shirts Saturday in its season opener at the Chicago Red Stars, the club is expected to wear them next time at home, May 14, versus the Houston Dash at Lynn Family Stadium.
The new kit features a white top with mint-colored fleur de lis in the same formation as the center mark of Racing’s crest. The fleur de lis, or lily flower, is a symbol firmly embedded in Louisville’s history and culture – just like the signature ingredient in the famous mint julep. Tops will be matched with mint shorts and white socks. Racing’s familiar lavender is still included on the Nike logos and team badges as well as a lily stitched into the jersey.
“We are thrilled to show off our new away jerseys,” said Racing Louisville president James O’Connor, “and we are especially pleased to see the mint on show. They’re vibrant jerseys, and we all feel they will be a huge hit with our supporters.”
The uniforms were designed by a team including board member Chris Harding and graphic designer Rachel Regenauer.
“We always knew we wanted this kit to be mint, so the design process started with the color,” Regenauer said. “The fans love mint. We love mint. It was ‘mint’ to be.”
The new kits will go on sale online immediately at shop.racingloufc.com with arrival estimated in the next 15-30 days. Kits will be available for purchase later at the Team Store at Lynn Family Stadium, which is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and on game days.
The Team Store will alert fans as soon as the jerseys are available should they prefer to purchase now and pick up in person. Youth, women’s and men’s sizes will be available. Shoppers may also customize their jerseys to have their favorite player’s name and number on the back for an additional fee.
Racing Louisville’s away kits carry primary sponsorship from Louisville-based GE Appliances, which is also the front jersey partner for USL Championship side Louisville City FC and the two clubs’ youth academies. Three other valued Racing Louisville partners are featured on the new kit: PNC above the name plate, Prüvit below the jersey number and Toyota on the sleeve.
“The new mint kit is awesome,” said Pat Denbow, the senior director of partner strategy with Soccer Holdings. “The design is first-class, and we are thrilled to yet again have GE Appliances front and center. GE Appliances has been a tremendous corporate partner and shares our vision of being a cutting-edge and community-driven organization. We also would not be where we are today without the exceptional support of our other jersey sponsors: Racing founding partners PNC, Prüvit and Toyota.”
Racing at Chicago kicks off at 8 p.m. Saturday, with streaming coverage available through Paramount+. Tickets also remain on sale for Racing’s 2022 regular season ahead of the May 14 home opener. Visit racingloufc.com for package deals and single-game tickets.
