Four players on Racing Louisville FC’s preseason roster are on their way back to camp from international calls up after Emily Fox (United States), Jaelin Howell (United States), Ebony Salmon (England U-23) and Sydney Cummings (Guyana) each represented their countries in various competitions.
Salmon and Cummings both joined the rest of Racing’s team in Tallahassee, Fla., ahead of Thursday’s preseason match against Florida State University. Howell and Fox will rejoin this weekend in Louisville as the team continues to prepare for the 2022 Challenge Cup.
Here’s how each player did while representing their country…
UNITED STATES: EMILY FOX & JAELIN HOWELL
The United States Women’s National Team won its fifth SheBelieves Cup trophy Wednesday evening. After drawing the Czech Republic in the opening match, the Stars & Stripes went on to win 5-0 over New Zealand and Iceland
Fox earned the start at left back in each of the three matches during the tournament, playing all but 45 minutes. She helped the USWNT backline keep a clean sheet across those competitions. To date, Fox has started five consecutive USWNT games. She also hit double digits during the tournament, making her 11th international cap.
Howell, who was called up as a replacement for Lindsey Horan, appeared off the bench twice against New Zealand and Iceland, earning her third and fourth international cap. By subbing on against Iceland, she made it consecutive appearances in SheBelieves Cup finals having also come on in last year’s tournament while still with Florida State.
ENGLAND U-23: EBONY SALMON
England’s squad traveled to Lisieux, France, for a pair of friendlies against Les Bleus’ U-23 side. Salmon wore the captain’s armband twice in their 3-2 loss and 1-all draw.
In the first match, Salmon scored England’s opening goal in the 20th minute and provided the assist to Liverpool’s Missy Bo Kearns in the 48th minute. After going down 1-0 in the 22nd minute in the second match, she scored the equalizer two minutes later.
This marked the second and third time Salmon has been named captain of the U-23s since the program returned from a three-year hiatus in 2021. In those four matches, she has now contributed two goals and three assists, helping the Young Lionesses to a 2-1-1 overall record since October 2021.
GUYANA: SYDNEY CUMMINGS
Guyana earned a pair of victories against Dominica (4-0) and Turks & Caicos Islands (7-0) in Concacaf W-Championship qualifiers.
Cummings, who was selected by Racing in the 2022 NWSL Draft, played all 180 minutes at center back for the Lady Jags. She scored off a free kick in the 35th minute of Guyana’s match against Dominica to mark her second international goal.
The Lady Jags currently sit atop of Group F in the qualifiers with two matches remaining against Nicaragua and Trinidad & Tobago in April. The group winner will advance to the Concacaf W Championship over the summer that will determine which countries will represent Concacaf in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
