Racing Louisville FC will look to stop the stigma at its Mental Health Awareness Night on Wednesday, May 17, against the Kansas City Current.
The club has partnered with National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and The Pete Foundation, which will be tabling at the match and providing mental health resources. Here’s what the fans can expect:
Mental health flag
During the match, we will be flying the mental health flag at Lynn Family Stadium.
Ribbon Rapport project
Fans in attendance are invited to select a ribbon to represent a mental illness they, or someone they know, have experienced or may still be struggling with and pin it to the mental health flag with the Pete Foundation. A message of hope, gratitude, and/or remembrance can be added to the ribbon.
Mental health resources on the video board
The Pete Foundation has provided mental health resources, including hotline, apps and local resources that will be displayed on the video board throughout the match.
About NAMI
NAMI of Louisville was founded in 1979 and we provide services to persons living with mental illness, their families, and the Louisville community. Formed by family members years ago when many persons living with serious mental illness could not advocate for themselves, NAMIs nationwide have had a phenomenal impact in improving services and treatments. NAMI Louisville is dedicated to educating consumers, family members, professionals, and the general public to dispel myths and misperceptions about mental illness.
About the Pete Foundation
The Pete Foundation is a community of vested individuals on a mission to empower today’s youth to pursue a happy, mentally healthy life, free from the internal conflict and confusion brought on by depression and anxiety. Changes in the way society views and accepts mental illness allow us to understand our personal struggles and give us the means to seek support.
Every year, the Pete Foundation holds the Big Stomp Festival, a music festival that stomps the mental health stigma.
