Racing Louisville forward Emma Sears found the net three times in the United States Women’s National Team’s friendly against New Zealand in Kansas City Wednesday night.
Sears connected with a pass from Michelle Cooper to open the scoring for the Stars and Stripes in the eighth minute, before combining again in the 55th minute. Sears got her first hat trick for club or country in the 84th minute when she tapped in a rebound off the crossbar.
Sears’ international goal tally is now at four. Tonight’s finishes come just a year and a day after her first international cap, a game where she became the fourth player in USWNT history to score and tally an assist in their international debut.
At the club level, the Dublin, Ohio, native is having a standout season for Racing. Her 10 goals are a club single-season record and she ranks fourth in the league in scoring. She is the top American goalscorer in the NWSL. She’s also registered two assists. In October, Sears registered two goals and an assist.
Sears returns to club action at 5 p.m. Sunday as Racing takes on Bay FC at Lynn Family Stadium. The club looks to clinch its first postseason berth. It’s also Fan Appreciation Day at Lynn Family Stadium. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free flag.
