On Friday morning, Racing Louisville midfielder Taylor Flint previewed Saturday’s home contest against NJ/NY Gotham FC and discussed how much she has enjoyed the new role in Louisville.
The 25-year-old has played against the New Jersey outfit on eight separate occasions throughout her career in the NWSL, losing just once back in 2021 when she was in Orlando. Flint was a force on both ends at Red Bull Arena in Racing’s draw against Gotham on April 28. The Nevada native led Louisville in passes into the final third (12), aerial duels won (3) and interceptions (4).
“We’re obviously very familiar with Gotham,” said Flint. “They’re a great team. We’ve prepared really well, and we’re just all excited to get out there.”
Flint made her way to Louisville via a January trade from San Diego Wave FC. In the beginning stages of the campaign, she has thrived in a new more defensive-minded role in the midfield. Racing’s No. 26 sits at the top of the league in multiple defensive statistical categories including interceptions (38), blocks (30), and tackles in the defensive third (32). Her 8.55 tackles plus interceptions per 90 minutes is on pace to shatter the club’s record for a single season among qualified players.
“I think the transition has been really nice. I got NWSL Best XI (for March/April) and I think that was something that really fueled me to want to keep pushing myself every day,” said midfielder Flint. “I found a love with defending. Never thought I’d say that in my life, but I love the six and I’m just working hard to try to be the best six in the game.”
