WHAS11: Racing's Betos carries spirit of late father
WHAS11 made its Father’s Day feature the story of Racing Louisville FC’s Michelle Betos and her dad, also a professional goalkeeper.
Tyler Greever spoke with Betos and her mother, Sue, about the late Luke Betos, who passed away last year after a cancer battle that came as a surprise to the family.
“The diagnosis happened in 2012,” Michelle Betos said. “And I didn’t find out until Dec. 31, 2019.
“…Obviously, we begged to know why he wouldn’t tell us. And he just said, ‘I just didn’t want to upset you guys. I just wanted you guys to live your lives. And I was going to fight this, beat it and tell you about it afterwards.'”
Betos called losing her father the hardest thing she’s ever dealt with, “and I’m still dealing with it every day. I miss him every day, but I also know how important it was for him to just see me happy and thriving. And I just know how happy he’d be for me right now.”
