Racing Louisville FC captain Arin Wright is spearheading a charity diaper drive coinciding with National Diaper Need Awareness Week.
The Kentucky native is hosting a bingo night at Trellis Brewing, 827 Logan St., from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. The public can join in with the price to play a diaper donation. Bingo starts at 6:30 p.m., and a number of Wright’s Racing teammates will be in attendance.
Members of the media are invited to attend. Please RSVP to Caden Charpentier at ccharpentier@racingloufc.com.
Wright kicked off National Diaper Need Awareness Week ahead of time back on September 6 with a donation brunch at Porch Kitchen & Bar, collecting 2,174 diapers.
National Diaper Need Awareness Week’s overall mission is to draw attention to the issue of diaper need across the United States. Launched in 2012 by the National Diaper Bank Network, the initiative aims to provide all babies access to clean diapers and other essentials. According to the organization’s “Diaper Check” this year, roughly one in two U.S. households with young children experience diaper insecurity.
“Diaper Need Awareness Week is an initiative that holds a very special place in my heart,” said Wright. “It wasn’t until I had my own son and began my work with Share Our Spare in Chicago that my eyes were opened to the hardship that 1 in 2 families in America face around diaper need.”
The diapers will all be donated to New Hope Services, Inc. — a non-profit organization based in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Founded in 1958, New Hope has grown over the last 60-plus years to provide support across three areas: Ability Services, Affordable Housing and Family Services.
“Upon coming to Louisville, I knew this initiative was something I wanted to bring attention to this community as well,” said Wright. “When I toured the New Hope facility in my first year, it was clear that this organization was exactly who I wanted to share this mission with.”
This is Wright’s third year collecting diapers for New Hope Services. She gathered nearly 7,000 diapers in her first two years working with the nonprofit.
Wright is one of 30 and counting moms/moms-to-be playing in the NWSL and one of two with Racing alongside Marisa DiGrande. She has a 6-year-old son, Grady, whom she gave birth to in April 2020.
“I’m thrilled that year over year we have been able to surpass our record and am beyond humbled by how our community has joined in these efforts,” said Wright.
Fans can also help the cause by dropping off diapers at the Lynn Family Stadium Team Store — 350 Adams St — during regular business hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
