On a stifling-hot Saturday night at Lynn Family Stadium, Racing Louisville FC captured its most decisive result of the season — a 4-1 win over expansion side Boston Legacy FC, marking a club-record third straight regular season win.
Before a season-high crowd, Kayla Fischer bagged her first career brace, while Emma Sears and Katie O’Kane converted second-half chances of their own to clinch Racing’s fourth win from its last five games. Boston’s Sammy Smith added a consolation goal late on to confirm the 4-1 scoreline. It went down as Louisville’s largest margin of victory since April 2024.
With 11 regular season matches to go, Louisville (6-11-2, 20 points) continues its surge up the NWSL standings, now sitting 13th, just seven points behind Seattle Reign FC in eighth, the playoff cut line.
“Absolutely so proud of this group,” said Racing head coach Bev Yanez. “I know we’ve had a rough start, but this group has been clicked in since we’ve made a few changes. … Since those structural changes have occurred, I think the group has been fantastic and super bought in. [We’re] back to those instincts. I think a lot of people were questioning our identity early on, and I don’t think there’s any questions. You can’t question it anymore.”
“Most importantly,” Yanez continued, “I think [the result] says a lot about our group — the way that they are fighting in the matches, players coming in and affecting games in the way that they are, as well, and to get on the scoresheet like that.”
From kickoff, Racing asked numerous questions of the visitors’ backline.
The opener rightfully came in the 44th minute when Fischer got in behind the defense, froze her defender, and then emphatically found the corner to make it 1-0 at the half.
Racing’s momentum rolled right into the final period of play. O’Kane cashed in a penalty in the 53rd minute after Fischer drew the spot kick. O’Kane then played the distributor role, as she set up Sears for the hosts’ third goal of the night just five minutes later. It marked Sears’ fifth goal of the campaign — a one-touch strike — and her third in the last two games.
Louisville’s attack continued from there. Fischer confirmed her brace in the 62nd minute to make it four, as Sears found her former Ohio State University teammate at the far post.
“It’s amazing,” Fischer said on her brace. “Makenna (Morris) and Emma both had really good balls, so we were just playing really well together right now. We just want to keep going.”
With its first clean sheet of the season in reach, Louisville gave up a late goal when Smith scored five minutes into second-half stoppage time. That moment did little, however, to ruin the home team’s celebration.
“Obviously, we did not start out the season as we wanted to at all,” O’Kane said. “I think [the result] just goes to show the grit that this team has. I think probably the whole world lost belief in us, but we never did. So I think that just goes to show how great this team is, how the coaching staff continued to lift us up throughout this whole time. And it’s just showing the hard work we’ve put in all year is paying off now.”
