Racing Louisville FC’s USL W League team lost to Lexington SC, 4-0, on Sunday at Toyota Field at Georgetown College.
The loss kept Louisville (1-3-1, 4 points) in fourth place in the Valley Division of the nation’s premier pre-professional women’s soccer league.
Louisville started the match with Racing Academy players or recent Academy graduates accounting for 10 of the 11 spots. Trista Morris, on the Racing Academy’s 2008 team, wore the captain’s arm band for the match.
Lexington put on the pressure for most of the first half but wasn’t able to find the back of the net, leading to a scoreless halftime break. Racing goalkeeper Emma Teague kept Louisville in the game with four stops, including a double save in the 41st minute.
In the second half, Lexington found its breakthrough, first in the 58th minute from Brooke Dawahare. Makala Woods added a second-half hat trick to extend the lead, scoring in the 63rd, 65th and 70th minutes.
With a roster comprised of college standouts and Racing Academy talents, Racing’s W League team is chasing a spot in the USL W League playoffs. The first-place finisher from each division moves into the W League knockout tournament.
Next up, Racing will return to Lynn Family Sports Vision & Training Center on Wednesday to host St. Charles FC at 4 p.m. Home matches are free to attend and open to the public. Select home and away games may be streamed live via SportsEnginePlay.com.
