Katie Lund agreed to new contract terms and extended her agreement with Racing Louisville FC through the 2025 season, the club announced Friday.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper had a standout year in 2022, posting six clean sheets, starting every regular-season match and setting a league record with 112 saves in a season.
“I am super grateful to be staying in Louisville for the next three years!” Lund said. “From the minute I got here, this city has felt like my second home. I’ve grown so much as a player and person in the past two years thanks to my teammates, coaches and staff members. I am so excited for the future of this club, and I can’t wait to be a part of the special moments ahead.”
“I said a year ago that Katie will be in the national team in two or three years if she works hard, has an open mind and challenges herself,” Racing coach Kim Björkegren said. “There is no reason to change my words. She already showed last year that she is a great goalkeeper, and I think we will see an even better Katie this year. The fact that she has also grown as a leader will help both her and our team take the next step.”
Lund, a 2021 NWSL Expansion Draft selection from Washington, emerged as a critical presence in the locker room and a team leader in 2022 as she took over the No. 1 keeping position for the first time in her career.
The Texas native played every minute of the regular season, posting a 78.8 save percentage. Her string of standout performances at the end of the season earned her NWSL Best XI honors for September/October.
She became a club favorite in 2021 after her breakthrough performance in The Women’s Cup, when she converted a penalty and then made the game-winning save against Bayern Munich in the tournament’s inaugural final at Lynn Family Stadium.
“I’m very excited for Katie to extend her contract here at Racing,” said Racing goalkeepers coach Sergio Gonzalez. “Her growth over the past two years has been amazing. What people outside of the club don’t see are all the little things Katie does on a daily basis that have helped her grow into one of the top goalkeepers in the NWSL. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with her to help reach the goals that she has set for this season and the future.”
Lund updating her deal with Louisville adds to the string of contract extensions Racing has inked with its young core. Midfielders Savannah DeMelo, Jaelin Howell and Lauren Milliet also signed through 2025.
Racing finished the 2022 campaign on a high, winning three of its final four matches, including a 1-0 victory in the regular-season finale against the Kansas City Current, the eventual NWSL runner-up.
Racing’s 22-game regular season this year will play out over seven months, starting on Saturday, March 25, and concluding in mid-October. A full schedule is pending, with season, group and premium tickets on sale now by visiting RacingLouFC.com/tickets.
