Racing Louisville FC’s USL W League team suffered its first loss of the year, a 2-0 defeat to Indy Eleven, on Friday evening at the Lynn Family Sports Vision & Training Center.
Indy’s Katherine Soderstorm scored both goals for the visitors, whose result moved Racing’s pre-professional side — composed of current and former college players, plus academy standouts — to 1-1-1 on the season.
“I am proud of the fight from the group,” said Racing’s W League coach, Kincaid Schmidt, “We were good in a lot of areas on the field, but we need to be more clinical in front of goal next game.”
Racing maintained pressure throughout the first half, with Louisville’s Sarah Hernandez and Tessa Dellarose both heading dangerous shots that sailed wide.
Those missed opportunities preceded Soderstorm’s game winner as, with 10 minutes left before the break, she scored after a long throw landed at her feet. Soderstorm doubled the league for Indy in the 65th minute, by finishing a loose ball in the box.
Late in the match. Soderstrom had a hat trick opportunity denied when Racing goalkeeper Macy Enneking saved a penalty kick.
Friday’s game marked the third of 12 for Racing’s W League squad. Next up, Racing hosts Flint City AFC at 7 p.m. Sunday, also at the Lynn Family Sports Vision & Training Center.
