Racing Louisville FC’s USL W League team earned its first victory on Sunday thanks to a brace by defender Emily Madril, who scored both her goals in the second half of a 2-1, comeback win at the Lynn Family Sports Vision & Training Center.
The clubs battled not long after Thursday night’s 0-0 draw in Detroit, which marked Racing’s first game in the W League, the country’s premier pre-professional women’s soccer circuit.
“I am extremely proud of the group and the resilience they showed,” said Racing’s head coach, Kincaid Schmidt. “To come back from an unfortunate 1-0 deficit and score two big-time goals and get our first win is great to see, especially in our home opener.”
With a large roster at her disposal, Schmidt elected for seven lineup changes from the opener and Racing found itself on the front foot most of the first half Sunday. But soon before the break, Detroit’s Madison Duncan registered a goal when Racing failed to clear a corner kick.
The hosts continued pushing out of the break, leveling the score when midfielder Clara Robbins combined with her Florida State teammate, Madril, whose shot hit off the post into the net. Madril’s second goal came just before stoppage time on a laid back pass from fellow defender Tessa Dellarose.
This marked the second of 12 W League games for a roster comprised of current and former college players, plus members of Racing’s youth academy. Next up, Racing hosts Indy Eleven at 7 p.m. Friday, also at the Lynn Family Sports Vision & Training Center.
Home games are open to the public and free to attend. Visit RacingLouFC.com/WLeague for more information.
