Monterrey, also known as Rayadas, is one of six LIGA MXF teams in the 20-team Summer Cup tournament that pits some of Mexico’s top squads against the 14 NWSL clubs during Olympic break from the regular season.
This past season, Rayadas finished 23-4-7 across the two halves of the Liga MXF season, scoring 87 goals en route to winning the Clausura title for the second half of the campaign. The team, led by captain and defender Rebeca Bernal, has five members of the Mexican national team, including Bernal, and is a three-time Mexican champion.
Racing’s other group stage games in the Summer Cup will be played July 26 against the North Carolina Courage at Lynn Family Stadium before a trip to play the Orlando Pride on August 1. From there, the competition will narrow to a semifinal round slated for the week of August 4. The championship match will take place the weekend of October 25-27.
