So you had to see what all the buzz is about? Glad we got your attention.
Did you know there is a major-league team already playing right here in our city? Yes, you read that right: Racing Louisville FC is the first top-tier professional sports team in the Commonwealth since the Kentucky Colonels folded up shop in 1976.
And in a National Women’s Soccer League consisting of 14 teams spread across the country, Racing Louisville is taking on rivals from the largest markets in the United States — including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Washington D.C. — right at beautiful Lynn Family Stadium in the Butchertown neighborhood.
Here’s where you come in.
Louisvillians have always said they want high-level pro sports here. Well, now we have them. So let’s show up for our club. Let’s embrace this moment.
Louisville prides itself on the fighting spirit of Muhammad Ali, the longshot mentality of a Kentucky Derby winner and the smooth pour of a well-crafted bourbon. We believe Racing Louisville, established in 2021, adds to that list of world-class offerings.
With a club name owing to Churchill Downs and the horse industry, Racing goes up against the likes of Alex Morgan, Trinity Rodman and Rose Lavelle in the NWSL. It’s the fastest-growing sports league in the United States, men’s or women’s. The competition is fierce.
Attendance averages are rapidly increasing across the NWSL as big business and celebrities alike buy into the hype. We, however, are the smaller market trying to pack a big punch and hanging its hat on a young roster with a hard-working mentality.

Last year, Racing saw six of its players called up to play in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, putting our city on the map in the global soccer community. The roster features Savannah DeMelo, a World Cup starter for the United States. Two-time NCAA Division I national player of the year Jaelin Howell captains Racing. Racing’s squad is coached by former pro Bev Yanez, a 35-year-old mother of two with family roots in Louisville.
A new national TV deal will feature Louisville regularly on ABC, CBS, ESPN and Amazon Prime Video. It’s a professional sporting stage unlike anything Louisville has seen before.
Top-tier pro sports have arrived. Now, let’s prove we belong. Let’s embrace this moment.
