After two weeks away, Racing Louisville FC is back at Lynn Family Stadium Saturday night, hosting another postseason hopeful: Angel City FC.
Kickoff for the club’s September opener is set for 6:30 p.m. ET. The return home will also be Arts and Culture Night, which will include performances from the Louisville Ballet and Louisville Orchestra. Tickets and more information on the night can be found at RacingLouFC.com/arts.
Louisville (7-13-2, 23 points) now enters a new month after an eventual six-match August, where it started by stringing together a club-record four-game win streak. An efficient attack was a defining factor of that success, as Racing netted multiple goals in all six of its games across August.
Racing, however, rolls into the weekend having lost two straight on the road versus Chicago Stars FC and San Diego Wave FC. Louisville was up two goals at the half last Friday at San Diego before the Wave mounted a second-half comeback to steal all three points at Snapdragon Stadium in a true tale of two halves. It was Racing’s first loss of the season after holding a lead going into the final period of play.
Giving her honest assessment of the result, Lauren Milliet said, “In this league, you can’t just have one good half. … You do have to put together a complete performance.”
Consecutive losses away from home, coupled with results elsewhere, have put Louisville now eight points back of the playoff line.
Racing has an ideal chance to get back into the playoff mix Saturday, facing a side it has held the upper hand against of late. Louisville has won four straight versus ACFC, dating back to September 2024. Angel City represents Louisville’s most successful matchup among teams it has faced at least 13 times in all competitions, with its last victory in the series coming on July 26 at BMO Stadium.
That Racing win snapped a three-game winning streak for Angel City, which comes into Saturday’s game on a much different run of form. ACFC (7-8-5, 26 points) has just one win from its last seven games, including the defeat to Racing in late July. However, L.A. has managed to pick up four draws in that span, while the lone win came a few days ago against Boston Legacy FC by a 5-2 score.
The result was crucial for ACFC in its fight to make it back to the playoffs. A win Saturday for Angel City would vault it past Seattle Reign FC and back into the top eight. The club is looking for its first postseason appearance since 2023, when it finished fifth in its second season of existence.

August honorees: Emma Sears and Lauren Milliet were recently named to the league’s August Best XI, presented by Amazon Prime. The duo was key in leading the club to a record win streak, combining for six goals and seven assists in August. Sears finished as one of three players with five or more goals during the month, while Milliet was one of two with at least four assists to her name. It was the first time since October/November last year that two Louisville players earned spots in the league’s Team of the Month.
Practically raining goals: Only one club netted more goals than Racing throughout the month of August. That was the North Carolina Courage, which tallied 19 goals, compared to Louisville’s 13 in six games. The total is eight more than the club registered in one less match during August 2025. Racing scored multiple goals in every match of August, including a run of back-to-back games with three or more.
Having herself a season: Prior to this season, Milliet’s career high for goal contributions was two, having spent most of her time in the right back role. Playing in a more central position higher up the pitch, Milliet is on nine (three goals, six assists) with eight contests remaining. In the defeat at San Diego, Milliet scored the game’s opening goal, taking advantage of some unselfish play from Kayla Fischer after the press forced a defensive error. Of her nine total goal involvements, six have come in the last five games.
Set-piece precision: Racing’s final first-half goal last week was created by way of a set piece. Arin Wright, at the far post, put a corner kick back across the face of the goal, where Taylor Flint was waiting to punch it home. Racing has scored 12 goals from set plays this season, tied for second-most in the NWSL. Only Utah Royals FC has more with 14, including a league-high six from corner kicks.
Against the trends: Over the season’s first 20 games, ACFC has scored just three goals in the opening 15 minutes of the season’s first 20 games, but that changed against Boston — Angel City ran riot, netting three goals in the first 18 minutes of the contest, including two inside 15 minutes. All three were converted by different players, with Zambian Prisca Chilufya converting the first of her two finishes on the night.
